Thanks to the thorough withdrawal committee
The past weekend was a little odd with all that wind and not much warmth. As Sunday night wound down, I noticed the warm color of reflected sunset on trees across the road, and I stepped out to enjoy the orange and pink glow sneaking under the clouds at the horizon. OK, a brief moment, but nice.
A better sign of the changing seasons are the wise and fun kids who head to the Wiscasset Public Library most Thursday mornings. Sounds like everyone enjoyed Wake Up It’s Spring last week; the next reading is April 18 at 10:30 a.m. What a treat for your kids and you.
Let’s celebrate a hard-working young woman who is dependable, conscientious, and friendly! Shaw’s honored Christy Hopkins this past week not only as Associate of the Month for March but for her past eight years of service. Shaw’s is lucky to have her on board!
School athletes on the baseball, softball and track teams are pretty busy. Please keep all your fans up to date by sending in news of victories and personal bests. Thank you.
Also keep in mind: Wiscasset Primary School is raising funds for the school garden (raised beds, a fence, and more plants). Donations are very appreciated at Partners In Education, 146 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, ME 04578 (please write 'School Garden Donation' on your memo line).
Hope you’re being creative about the Westport Community Association's Meet and Greet. Carol Blake can hardly wait to hear about your unique and fun raffle donations. Kindly give her a call at 207-882-4267 or send an email to cjblake6@gmail.com/.
Are you a high school senior with an account at Midcoast Federal Credit Union (across the bridge in Edgecomb)? MFCU will award 2 scholarships of $500 each to students who will be attending a 2- or 4-year degree program. It’s called the Diane L. Oceretko Scholarship Fund, and the deadline is May 1. You can learn more about it and pick up an application by heading over to MFCU or calling 207-443-5531 (ext. 1217).
In a swing of a couple of hours, I learned why we’re not likely to vote on actual withdrawal from RSU 12 this June, and then tried out karaoke. Let’s just say I’m still trying to figure out both!
A lot of credit to our Withdrawal Committee (Jerry Bodmer, Richard DeVries, Dennis Dunbar and Mort Mendes) for being so thorough. While the end goal is excellent education for our students, there is a complicated process right now in choosing the best relationship with the other towns and their schools.
Later in the evening, I was enjoying old and new friends singing away and then there was a timeless song by Three Dog Night (which was irresistible to me).
Grabbing a scarf just in case, and sticking to humming at mewbarnes2@yahoo.com or 207-882-6055.
