Warm hearts this Valentine’s with 'When Harry Met Sally'
If winter has you worn down by snowbanks and subzero days, Lincoln Theater offers a perfect Valentine’s Day escape. Movie lovers are invited to a one-night-only special screening of “When Harry Met Sally” on Saturday, Feb. 14, playing at 7 p.m.
The smart, endlessly quotable romantic comedy helped redefine the genre for a generation. Directed by Rob Reiner and written by Nora Ephron, the film follows Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) over 12 years as their relationship evolves from acquaintances, to friends, to something more, all while debating whether men and women can ever truly be “just friends.”
“When Harry Met Sally” is widely regarded as one of the greatest films directed by the incomparable Rob Reiner, who passed tragically in 2025, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of films celebrated for their wit, heart, and timeless storytelling. Released in 1989, “When Harry Met Sally” was both a critical and commercial success, earning positive reviews and grossing more than $90 million at the U.S. box office. A strong showing for a romantic comedy.
The interludes in which older couples describe how they met were inspired by writer Nora Ephron’s real-life conversations with people around her when she was developing the script. Those authentic stories were woven into the movie to enrich its tapestry of love and human connection.
With razor-sharp dialogue, unforgettable performances, and one of the most iconic deli scenes in cinema history, “When Harry Met Sally” remains funny, honest, and deeply charming. It’s a timeless celebration of love, friendship, and the ways romance has a habit of finding us when we least expect it. Perfect for a cozy Valentine’s night at the movies.
Tickets: $10 for adults, $7 for Lincoln Theater members and youth (ages 18 and under), are available through the website at Lincolntheater.org. Lincoln Theater is located at 2 Theater St. in the heart of downtown Damariscotta.
