St. Andrew’s Church plans benefit for outreach programs May 15-16
As its major fundraiser this year for its local and international Outreach partners, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Newcastle is planning two days of antique auction events in May. On Friday, May 15 the Thomaston Place Auction Gallery will park its big recreational vehicle on the Parish House grounds up Glidden Street from the church. For a $10 fee or three items for $25, John Bottero, Thomaston Place Auction Gallery’s vice president, will provide a professional appraisal of antiques, curios, jewelry or other valuables that people bring there. Items presented for appraisal can be donated to the St. Andrew’s auction that takes place the following day; all such donations will be tax deductible.
On Saturday, May 16 St. Andrew’s Outreach Committee will host “The Evening for Community Outreach” at The 1812 Farm in Bristol. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and plenty of entertainment — chiefly in the form of an auction of antiques, one-of-a-kind services and gift certificates for local hotspots. Bottero will be the auctioneer. Tickets are $20.
All net proceeds from the two events (“Appraisal Day” on May 15 and “The Evening for Community Outreach” on May 16) will go to support St. Andrew’s 18 local and international partners including Habitat for Humanity, the Community Energy Fund of Lincoln County, the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Newcastle, the Trinity Jubilee Center in Lewiston and the church’s longstanding Haiti Fund.
Some of the items already donated for the May 16 auction include: a day sail on Penobscot Bay in a 38-foot sloop, a week this summer or next in a spacious farmhouse in rural Burgundy in France, an antique Chinese ceramic jar and a striking carved and upholstered settee with finials.
Information describing the auction items, with pictures, will soon be on St. Andrew’s website at www.standrewsnewcastle.org. If you would like to donate an item, a service or a gift certificate, contact Ann Kash at St. Andrew’s office (207-563-3533) or Steve Ward (207-563-8191 or stevew@tidewater.net).
