Sun, 05/10/2015 - 5:15pm
A permitted burn of a brush pile on Wiscasset’s Foye Road on Sunday afternoon, May 10, grew out of control and burned about an acre of woods, Wiscasset Assistant Fire Chief Nick Merry said.
No one was hurt. Firefighters from Edgecomb, Westport Island, Dresden, Alna and Woolwich helped Wiscasset firefighters put out the fire at 196 Foye Road, Merry said.
The Maine Forest Service and Wiscasset Ambulance also responded. Newcastle firefighters stood by at the Newcastle fire station.
The fire was reported at 3:20 p.m. A long, narrow driveway presented an initial challenge for crews, but once the water supply was in place the fire was knocked down within about 20 minutes, Merry said.
