Election vulnerability
Dear Editor:
Is there any better evidence of our election vulnerability than the recent revelation of 250 Maine ballots exposed when a bulky Amazon package broke open? Who was responsible for sending them; where and to whom were theydistributed, and how were they intended to be voted? Yes, it is fair to ask how many more were delivered; and obvious that many bogus ballots could easily influence election results in many of our small towns.
Question 1 is intended to combat this potential problem of voting eligibility and legitimacy. Conscientious Mainers should respect a legislative effort to assure identities of qualified persons desiring to exercise absentee voting rights by requiring written ballot requests.
Question 1 addresses an American core value, not one of political partisanship. Vote "Yes" on Question 1 on Nov. 4.
